Media Center Home

The Fulton County Schools Media and Educational Technology department promotes academic excellence by empowering student and staff to be effective, discriminating users of ideas and information. Additionally, Fulton County Schools Media and Educational Technology Instructors (METIs) assist instructional staff in using technology effectively for differentiating instruction and providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experiences for all students. The Fulton County Schools Media and Educational Technology department facilitates the development of balanced and relevant collections of digital and print resources for teacher and student use. Digital resources are provided for all students that are accessible anytime, anywhere, on any web-enabled computer, laptop, or mobile device.

Mackinvia is our digital resource portal that provides students and teachers with one-stop access to ebooks, audio books, read alongs, research databases, and web links specifically selected with our students in mind. Download the app from Google Play or the iTunes store. Login with your lunch number and birthday.
SL Lewis is excited to implement Google Apps for Education. All students who return a permission form will be assigned an account to use for school assignments only. Google Apps for Education (GAFE) is a free cloud based suite of productivity tools for students and teachers. Students and teachers utilize GAFE to create, collaborate, problem solve, and communicate solutions to local, national or global issues. See your teacher for access information.

Safari Montage serves as our hub for third party and student generated digital media. Media Center Hours:
The Media Center is open from 7:15 until 2:00. In the mornings, students must go to their classrooms before coming to the Media Center. Students may also check out books throughout the school day. Students must have a pass from their teacher to come to the media center and check out books.

Schedule:
Each S. L. Lewis class visits the media center weekly for approximately 30-45-minutes.  Students are also allowed to visit the media center in the morning and the afternoon after lunch (with teacher permission) for additional check-out time.

Student Check-Out:
Students in Kindergarten - 2nd grade may check out 1 book at a time.
Students in grades 3-5 may check out 2 books at a time.
If a student is working on a project or presentation, he or she may check out an additional book that pertains to the research topic.
If students cannot checkout a paper-based book, they are encouraged to read ebooks via Mackinvia.

Overdue Books:
All materials circulate for 14 days
We do not charge fines for overdue books
If an item is not returned by its due date, students checkout privileges are suspended until the book is returned or lost book fees are paid
Overdue notices are provided to the classroom teacher during media sessions once per month

Damaged or Lost Books:
Students who damage a book will be expected to pay a minimum of a $5 fine unless the book was new during the current school year, then the student will be expected to pay the full replacement value.

Damage includes:
Coloring or writing on any pages
Water or other liquid anywhere on the book (be careful of water bottles in backpacks!)
Ripped/torn/chewed cover or pages
Food/stains

Students are expected to pay full replacement value for lost books

Refunds
If a student pays a lost book fine and the book is returned to the media center, a refund will be issued. Parents should stop by the media center after receiving a refund notice to pick up a refund check.
